Farr 9.2 Boat Design Details

The Farr 9.2 is a very capable sea boat, it is dry in almost all conditions. Its easily handled rig, features a large roached main that drives the boat fast in shorthanded cruising situations, and is easily reefed in heavy weather. She handles heavy seas with ease, and can regularly reach speeds in a sea breeze in excess of 12 knots; passage-making is a pleasure. The boats have regularly cruised to Quindalup, Dunsborough & the Abrolhos Islands, and members often successfully compete in offshore races such as the Bunbury return.

The Farr 9.2 Association has recently purchased the Farr 9.2 boat moulds and is keen to encourage anyone interested in building a new boat. Please contact us for any information you require. All members of the association are very pleased to show off their boats, and the sailing capabilities of the Farr 9.2's. Most members would be happy to have an excuse to take their boat out!

The best way to view the internals is to ask to view a boat!

How to Build a Farr 9.2

  1. Select a builder, either your own preferred or a nominated builder from the Farr 9.2 association
  2. Select the degree of completion you will receive the yacht in, usually either;
    Stage 1: Fibreglass completed, with bulkheads in place and Coach house roof fitted to hull, owner to complete
    Stage 2: All major fittings in place including Keel rudder & motor, with Owner to complete timber fit-out below decks.
    Stage 3: Complete- boat is launched in a completely finished manner.
  3. Arrange for the Class Measurer to certify the boat, and receive your class measurement certificate, so you can begin racing.

Cost of the Asset

The Farr 9.2 can be built from between $100,000 to $175,000 depending on fit-out, survey, and mechanicals. The rigs must be standard, as are the sail sizes fixed by class rules so they are relatively low cost.

Second Hand, there are also a number of Farr 9.2s for sale at any given time, so contact any member of our executive for details.
